Last week, Google announced a new capability of Google Search, called App Indexing. Just like Google crawls and indexes websites, Google can now index content within Android apps. This enables Android smartphone users who have your app installed to launch it via relevant Mobile Search Results and directly access the content they need.
This App Indexing Search Feature is available on searches done using Google Search App version 2.8+ for Android 4.1+, and in mobile browsers on Android if the user is signed in.
Google is currently testing it with an initial group of developers. If you are interested in enabling indexing for your Android app, here are the 3 easy steps:
1. fill out the “App Indexing – Expression of Interest” form
2. update your app to add deep link support
3. add app deep links to your website sitemap. Or, add the links to your website.
